Dimapur Police rescues one, arrests 11 kidnappers

Dimapur, Feb. 8 (EMN): Dimapur Police has claimed to rescue one person and arrested 11 persons in connection with alleged kidnapping for ransom from Padumpukhuri area in Dimapur on February 5.

A police report issued by the Dimapur deputy commissioner of police (crime) and PRO informed that the arrested persons included nine cadres allegedly from Akato Chophy-led NSCN/GPRN and two civilians.

According to police report, on February 5 at around 9:30 am, four unknown persons abducted one Mon Bahadur Chetri alias Temjen Jamir from his residence at Ahmed Husain Road, Dimapur, and demanded a ransom of INR 100,000 from the victim’s parents for his release. It stated that on receipt of the information, a joint operation by Dimapur Police along with the 5th Assam Rifles was conducted at Padum Pukhuri area. It stated that on reaching the suspected house, the joint team conducted an operation at the residence of one Benito Chophy, ‘ss’ deputy kilonser of NSCN (Akato group), in which the victim was rescued and arrested nine cadres of NSCN/GPRN Akato Chophy and two civilians.

The joint team recovered one .22 pistol with magazine, one .32 pistol with magazine, one letter head of NSCN Akato Chophy group (promotion order), military dress (one trouser and one cap), one register containing extortion details from transporters, eight smart phones and three basic phones, one cancelled red cards, and three cancelled blue cards during the operation.

Report stated that a case has been registered at East Police Station vide Case No. 0033/22 U/S 364 A/34 IPC R/W 25(1B) R/W 7/8 NSR and is under investigation.
