DIMAPUR — A photo exhibition on the integrated communication and outreach programme of nine years of ‘Seva Sushasan and Garib Kalyan’ and systematic voter’s education and electoral participation was held on Tuesday at Dimapur Government College (DGC).

According to a DIPR report, it was organised by the Central Bureau of Communication, Field Office Kohima, Ministry of Information and Broadcasting.

In the programme, E Lichumthung Kikon, assistant professor in the department of Commerce at DGC, described the electoral process as one of the major unifying activities for Indian citizens. He noted that election day is the one day when everyone in India is equal, regardless of gender, education, socio-economic status, or geographical location.

He said that every citizen who has reached the age of 18 and above has the right to vote and every vote counts. He added that the right to vote is one of the few pillars of democracy, and  stressed the importance of exercising the franchise.

Vinekho Tetso, revenue officer, Dimapur, stated in his address that several developmental schemes were provided to poor farmers and youth under the leadership of Narendra Modi and encouraged the youth to start their own businesses and engage in various forms of entrepreneurship.

He added that the past nine years have unveiled the latent potential of India and brought the ‘Nation-first’ motto to the core of governance.
