Dimapur Excise updates: 4 lakh revenue, good liters and 300 arrests

[dropcap]T[/dropcap]he establishment of the Excise department of Dimapur district has said that the department has made at least 4 lakh in revenue and confiscated a substantial cache of contraband and liquor that has led to the arrest of at least 300 persons during the month of March this year.
The commissioner of Excise issued a press release on Tuesday listing out the “achievements” for the department for the month of March. Continuing with its drive to check illegal sale, possession, and smuggling, and transportation of liquor and banned drugs in Dimapur district, the Excise department has been raiding various locations in Dimapur town. The three arms of the department namely the district excise staff, Narcotics Cell and mobile squad have been at hand on the task, the commissioner stated.During the month of March, 306 persons were arrested for various offences relating to peddling, smuggling or transporting banned drugs and liquor. The department has registered 306 cases while assorted liquor amounting to 3, 547 bottles and 321 liters of country liquor have been compounded.
Besides liquor and drugs, the Excise department is credited with finding 100 gelatin items, 200 caps, 30 meters of fuse wire. These have been handed over to the police, the department stated.
So far the total revenue the department has deposited is Rs.4, 71,500, the press release stated.
“All the liquor offenders has been booked and penalized under Nagaland Liquor (Total Prohibition) Act of 1989.
“The department is contemplation to conduct more such raid and arrest in coming days. The state Excise department is conducting surveillance round the clock to thwart and attempt to smuggle liquor in the town,” the Excise establishment stated.
“Checking of vehicles, Restaurant and lounges shall be perform regularly as usual and requested general Public to co-operate and support the department in order to successfully implementation of NL TP Act’ 1989.”
Sovima bans ‘intoxicants’ within village’s areas
The Sovima village council has banned the use of alcohol and “other form of drugs and intoxicants” within the village, a press statement from the council on Tuesday stated. Also, collection of firewood, hunting and “grazing” have also been prohibited. Any person found indulging in the aforesaid banned activities would invite “heavy action,” the council has cautioned. It has also asked all the villagers to assemble at the local ground on April 18 next, 8 am, for a community cleaning drive.
