Dengue cases on the rise in Diphu

DIPHU — With cases of dengue on the rise in Diphu Municipal area, the health department has called for a united fight against the outbreak of the disease.

As on August 17, the positivity rate still stands at 45%.

During a press briefing held at the conference hall of the Joint Director of Health Service, on Friday, Joint Director of Health Services, Dr. Borsing Rongpi informed that the cases of dengue fever in Karbi Anglong, especially in Diphu Municipal area, has increased as compared to last year.

Last year, the positive cases were 3,548. This year till July end the total test conducted was 4,897 out of this 2,041 were found positive, he said.

Rongpi also said that the positivity rate is very high as it still stands at 45% with the death toll at four.

“The Aedes aegypti mosquitoes when they bite pass the dengue virus. The dengue virus not only passes to human beings, but it passes to the eggs. This is one of the characteristics of dengue,” he added.

The official death toll is 4. The total tests done (Elisa) was 114 out of which 74 were positive.
