Imphal, Nov. 8 (EMN): The Opposition political parties in Manipur demanded the fulfilment of the BJP government’s promise that every Indian will get Rs. 15 lacs. in their bank account during the protest rally that was launched against demonetisation and GST in Imphal on Wednesday.
The political parties had also dubbed the day as a ‘Black day’ later conducted a public meeting after the rally.
“All political parties come together to bring a change as people are suffering a lot due to demonization and GST,” said former Chief Minister and opposition leader Ibobi while addressing the meeting.
“So time has come to teach a lesson to the BJP government.”
Ibobi also claimed that 5 million people have lost their jobs besides losing approximately around Rs 5 lac. cr. in printing new notes due to demonetisation in the country.
The political parties that participate were the Indian National Congress; Nationalist Congress Party; Manipur units of Aam Aadmi Party; All India Forward Block;Bharatiya Samata Party;Communist Party of India; Communist Party of Marxist; All India Trinamool Congress; Janata Dal-Secular; and Revolutionary Secular Party.
The BJP on the other hand, conducted a press conference as part of the observance of the day as anti-black money day at the BJP Manipur unit office, Chief Minister Nongthombam Biren Singh said that demonetisation is not against the public but against the black marketers to bring a change.
“As a result, we’ve seen lot of changes in Manipur too. Many non-registered firms are registered, non-tax payers become tax-payer, free gas connection were given to the needy ones, housing schemes given to the houseless,” Biren said.
“Even the number of beggars has been reduced while number of electrified villages have been increased from 63 lacs. to 90 lacs. in the country,” he added.
Reacting to the opposition parties particularly the Congress party’s protest, he said, “They are trying to mislead people in connection with the upcoming elections in some states including those in the NE region.”
On November 8 last year, the BJP government at the Centre had banned the currency notes of Rs. 500 and Rs 1000 denomination then in circulation.
