Dimapur, April 12 (EMN): To press the demand for upgrade of Aboi in Mon district from its current status of ADC headquarter to that of a full-fledged district headquarter, a “mass general public rally” was held on Wednesday at local ground, Aboi town.
The rally, according to a press release, was organised by the Aboi District Demand Committee. it stated that the first started in 2008 when the committee submitted a memorandum to the state government in the month of May.
The state government, it stated, ‘under the chairmanship’ of the then chief secretary Lalthara had “recommended the demand” since. “But for some years they have to go together with the ENPO demand and that’s how their demand was delayed.
“So, the rally was organised to show solidarity with the district demand to the government to upgrade Aboi from ADC HQ to that of DC HQ as mentioned in their addendum memorandum submitted to the government of Nagaland with all the related papers along with Aboi profile pertaining to the demand as on 9th March 2017”, it informed.
The demand, it underscored, was not for division of the Konyaks but for development. The Aboi people have chosen to stay “under the same umbrella of one KU, KSU, KNSK and KBBB”, it stated. The proposed district covers Aboi area, Longching area, Chen area, Mopong Hongkong area and Tobu area which is mostly the whole of Upper Konyak area, it informed.
“All the KU units and Area student’s union body from all the areas and the general public took part in the mass rally. Presidents from all the KU units and area student’s union stands in one voice that they are in support with the demand, therefore to unite and cooperate with one another in rising voice for their rights,” the statement read.
The Anghs (Konyak chieftains) of the neighbouring villages have also given word that they have no objection to the demand, it stated. “The apex body KU also provide no objection with (sic) the demand.”
The rally was concluded “by submitting second addendum memorandum” to ADC of Aboi, it informed.
