• District incurred 166 crore in 7 constituencies within 2 months

Dimapur, April 12 (EMN): The All Sumi Students’ Union(SKK)’s campaign “Amikucho Kikishe” (clean election) under their ‘Mission Achipiu Mlahnni’ started off on a positive note with mass participation of more than 5, 000 people from all walks of life converging at Centre Point in Zunheboto.

The organisers issued a press release to the media on Wednesday offering updates about the event.

Leaders of the Sumi Hoho, Sumi Kukami Hoho, Sumi Totimi Hoho, and the Against Corruption and Unabated Taxation (ACAUT) spoke during the program and sounded a clarion to the people to join hands with SKK and the Clean Election campaign to bring change to the society.

KK Sema from the ACAUT, Rev. Kughato Chophy from the Nagaland Baptist Church Council, and Hekani Jakhalu from YouthNet were the main speakers of the day.

In her address, Hekani Jakhalu said that in 2013 election Zunheboto incurred an expense of 166 crore in seven constituencies within a period of 2 months. This result is directly shown by the quality of development work, the press release stated. She added: according to information received through the RTI, “in the last five years, Zunheboto town received more than 6 crores for road maintenance within the town.”

Addressing the event, KK Sema of the ACAUT said that the ‘ill effects’ of wrong election system was responsible for wrong governance. The trust put upon the people through communitization is abused by the practice of keeping proxies through political patronage. “He said come election, God is locked away in the closet and challenged the gathering to overcome the same,” the press release stated.

Another speaker, Rev. Dr. Joshua Rochill challenged the gathering to be upright and righteous in the sight of God. He challenged the churches to stand against “the negative forces during the times of election with biblical references.”

The newly-appointed president of the Sumi Hoho, Hekhushe Shikhu announced that the Sumi Hoho was “all out in support of SKK’s campaign for clean election and promised to sensitize all its members and constituent bodies.” The statement of the Sumi Hoho was reiterated by the Sumi Kukami Hoho with an assurance that the Sumi Kukami Hoho will “work towards impacting change in the forthcoming 2018 elections.”

Other highlights of the program included a performance by local singer Alobo Naga who is also one of the core team members of the mission. Also, local drama group ‘Dreamz Unlimited’ entertained the gathering with a drama themed on elections.

The program ended with NBCC pledge led by Rev. Hukugha Jimomi, ES of the SBAK (Nito Mount). A five-member resolution committee led by Joshua Sheqi, advocate, presented and adopted 11 resolutions, the press release stated.
