Kohima, Feb. 16 (EMN): The department of Economics and Statistics informed that
the level of registration of births and deaths in the state decreased by -31.4%
and -54.9% respectively, during 2017 and 2018.
As per the department, number of births and deaths registered were:

It informed that online registration of births and deaths has been introduced in Kohima district and can be accessed through the state portal, and the facility will be extended to all the districts in a phased manner in collaboration with the IT department.
The department, which has been functioning as the nodal department for implementation of registration of births and deaths in Nagaland since 1974 under the Civil Registration of Births and Deaths Act 1969, informed that since 1999, the state government has appointed the head teachers of each government lower primary schools as the rural registrars of birth and deaths.
There were 1445 registration centres functioning in the state as of April 2018; out of which, 1274 were in the rural areas, 32 in urban areas and 139 in medical institutions.
