DC Wokha inaugurates organic marketing unit

WOKHA — The deputy commissioner (DC) of Wokha, Ajit Kumar Ranjan, on Friday inaugurated the office of Tchutho Cooperative FPO and organic marketing unit in Wokha town.

The organic marketing unit was set up with an objective to facilitate the farmers and promote local organic products on larger scale.

Speaking at a brief inaugural programme, Ranjan congratulated all the stakeholders involved in bringing a dream project to a reality in order to facilitate the farmers. He acknowledged the organisation in having a lady as the CEO and termed as a good sign that the organisation has achieved a first step in leading a community with equal and collective responsibility.

With the inauguration of a new facility, he expressed confidence that the organisation would become a trend setter in fulfilling the desire target without depending on the government for subsidies. He also urged them to change their mindset and develop an idea to move forward saying that the society needs to go a long way. He also encouraged not to only harvest subsidy but harvest prosperity.

He was of the view that society would be able to move forward only through changing of mindset and approach, fostering self-stability and sustainable and reinvestment of mindset.

He also encouraged the producers/ farmers to put a value-addition service rather than ending their product at one point of service, thereby putting up a value chain and shaping their business into a larger platform. He further wished the society to become a role model in inspiring not only within the district of Nagaland but the entire region of Northeast by setting an example.

The dedicatory prayer was said by Zurenthung Humtsoe, assistant pastor of WTBC, and ribbon cutting marking the inauguration of Tchutho Co-operative FPO and organic marketing unit was done by the chief guest.

In her introduction, the CEO of the newly launched organisation informed that the society was registered last year under Nagaland Cooperative Society Act 2017 covering four villages namely Pongitong, Shaki, Sankiton and Meriyan village under Wozhuro block of Wokha district.

A short speech was also delivered by Dr. Moaakum Pongen, ICAR KVK Wokha, and Poji, AGM of NABARD.

It was informed that that the market would be opened on every working day. Till date, a total of 235 farmers have registered from the four villages.
