Dimapur, June 9 (EMN): Commemorating the 75th years of India Independence and as part of Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav, the District Cultural Office, Zunheboto, organised a cultural programme on June 7 at the District Cultural Complex on the theme ‘Igniting cultural traditions.’
Speaking on the occasion as the special guest, the deputy commissioner of Zunheboto, Rahul Bhanudas Mali, defined culture as the way people live their lives and the way people celebrate festivals. He added that culture separates human beings from animals as culture has life.
Rahul also urged not to make any distinction among the people based on culture. On the contrary, he urged people to respect the culture of other communities to live in peace and harmony. He further lauded the district cultural officer for organising such a programme to promote and preserve culture.
Peihau Nsarangbe, district cultural officer of Zunheboto, highlighted that the department has organised the cultural programme in order to promote and preserve the rich cultural heritage. Describing culture as identity, he stated that when one loses their culture, they lose their identity. He, therefore, called upon the elders to actively take part in promoting and preserving the rich culture.
On the occasion, cultural items were presented by residents of North Point Colony, Project Colony Sunday School, Amiphoto Colony Sunday School, Zunheboto Town Sumi Baptist Church Sunday School and Asukhomi Community.
