Cultural presentation marks Women’s Day in Dimapur

On the theme “Pledge for Parity,” Women’s Day celebration cum exhibition was organized by Assisi Centre for Integrated Development (ACID) on March 12 at Assisi auditorium, Dimapur. About 600 women representing Self Help Groups (SHG), Joint Liability Groups (JLG) and Domestic Workers Group (DWG) from different parts of Dimapur attended the celebration.
Ms. Tiakala, Deputy General Manager, NABARD, Regional Office, Dimapur, and Imlisashi Jamir, Assistant Labor Commissioner, Department of Labor and Employment, Dimapur, were also present on the occasion.
Speaking on the occasion, Ms. Tiakala highlighted on role of women in social change. While pointing out that women have no time to enjoy of what they deserve, she however said there are some women who sacrificed their time playing role of a leader.
To explain better on social change, she cited the example of Florence Nightingale, who sacrificed herself giving awareness on health and hygiene while attending the needy. She said women are the agent for social change and they have a great role to play in the community and the society at large.
Assistant Labor Commissioner spoke on Unorganized Sector Social Security Act 2008. He mentioned that 94% of employment was created by unorganized sector of workers. Briefly, he spoke about different social security schemes like National Old Age pension, widow pension and others.
Cultural items presentation by SHGs, JLGs, DWGs marked the occasion. There was also exhibition of handicrafts and traditional items for sale. The program was concluded with sports and games.
