Crime update: 266 cases and 281 arrests in Kohima last year

Dimapur, Jan. 4: From January to December last year, the Kohima police authorities registered a total of 266 cognisable cases and arrested 281 persons – 269 male and 12 female.
This information, along with other details, was contained in an update provided by the Senior Superintendent of Kohima Police, Joseph Hesso on Wednesday. Out of the 266 cases, 159 were ‘reported cases’ while ‘suo-motu’ cases accounted for 166, it was informed.
“In spite of our shortcomings and failures we acknowledge the support and guidance provided by the citizens and through this we would like to convey our special thanks to the citizens particularly those who have helped us in prevention and detection of crimes and criminals in the town,” the statement from the police read. There were 207 chargesheets, while 21 of out of the total cases registered were pending investigation, it informed.

Among the suo-motu cases, the top 8 seizures:

1. A total recovery of 40 stolen vehicles worth about Rs 1.2 crore, comprising of 4 trucks, 2 dumpers, 14 pick-up trucks, 6 Tata Sumos, 1 Tata Xenon, 1 Tata Indigo, 2 Bolero, 3 Maruti Alto, 3 Maruti 800, 1 Maruti Zen, 1 Maruti SX4, 1 Maruti Esteem, 1 Hyundai Santro, 1 motorcycle (inclusive of 15 vehicles reported stolen from other states).
2. Seizure of 5818 kg of contraband Ganja worth about Rs. 1.16 crore in the national market.
3. Seizure of 18.5 Kg of Opium worth about Rs. 4.62 lakh in the national market.
4. Seizure of assorted IMFL’s worth about Rs. 20 lakh in the local market.
5. Seizure of 1,66,165 nos. of Spasmo Proxyvon and 1000 nos. of Nitrosun capsules worth about Rs. 16.71 lakh.
6. Seizure of one oil tanker fully loaded with solvent chemical.
