Covid-19 second wave reaches Northeast

There has been a surge in Covid-19 cases across the country recently including the north east region where cases are detected daily.

According to a PIB report, two more covid-19 positive patients had died in Assam in the last 48 hours taking the total death toll to 1,109. In Manipur state, Covid-19 caseload surged to 29,428 on Monday as five more persons tested positive.

The report also stated that the Health minister of Meghalaya Al Hek on Monday warned of a second wave of Covid-19 if proper care was not taken. He said that the state was already witnessing a surge in the number of Covid-19 cases and the return of many in the state was  threatening a situation similar to the one during lockdown.  The Director of Health services Dr. Aman War on Monday informed that four positive cases had been reported in North-Eastern Hill University.

In the state of Tripura as well, 11 staff of main branch of State Bank of India (SBI) tested positive. In the state of Sikkim, after more than two months, death case was reported, taking the toll to 136 with the death of a 65-year old lady. The state has six new positive cases taking the tally of confirmed cases to 6,263, it stated, and the state has 56 active cases at present.
