Col. CK Nayudu Trophy: Nagaland defeat Manipur

DIMAPUR — At the ongoing Col. CK Nayudu Trophy, Nagaland’s under-23 team defeated the Manipur squad by 299 runs on Wednesday.

According to an update, Nagaland won the toss and elected to bat first. Team captain Hem struck a century and scored a total of 114 runs off 237 balls. He was supported by Mughavi Sumi, who contributed 59 runs to the total tally, as Nagaland’s first innings stood at 284 runs in 95.4 overs, losing all wickets.

For the Manipur side, Romario and Kiran Laishram picked up four wickets each, it said.

Manipur, in its first innings, were bundled out for 189 runs as Nagaland’s bowlers Neizekho and Hem picked up five and four, respectively, to dismantle the Manipur batting line up in 60.2 overs. Manipur’s captain, Ulenyai Khwairakpam, made a notable contribution for his team with a score of 86 runs off 130 balls.

In the second inning, Nagaland scored another 365 runs in 96 overs, losing all wickets after a well defined batting display from Mughavi Sumi and Sujal Prasad. Sumi scored a century of 101 runs off 219 balls, while Prasad made a quick fire century of 111 runs in only 74 balls.

Kiran Laishram was the most successful bowler for the Manipur side, with five wickets.

Requiring 461 runs for a win, Manipur were bowled out for 161 runs in 86.3 overs, with Tohuka leading the side with a five wicket haul for Nagaland. Suresh, with 49 runs, was the only notable run contributor for the Manipur U-23 side in the second inning.

Nagaland will next take on Meghalaya from February 4 to the 7th at MCA Ground, Polo Ground, Shillong.
