Chief Minister of Nagaland TR Zeliang has said that Dr Shurhozelie Liezietsu, chairman of the Democratic Alliance of Nagaland (DAN) and President of the Naga People’s Front has being the “most dependable solid rock behind the DAN Government in Nagaland during some of its worst ordeals, especially in the early part of this year.”Speaking at a function marking the release of a biography on Dr Shurhozelie on Saturday at the Hotel de Oriental Grand here in Kohima, the chief minister took the opportunity to thank the NPF chief saying that it was the latter’s “maturity, political acumen and wisdom, combined with (his) tall standing as a respectable, veteran politician and statesman that have helped the present DAN Government survive the political ordeals.”
Dr Shürhozelie Liezietsu, chairman of DAN who has been in the public domain for more than four decades has proved himself not only as a great politician and statesman, but also as a social worker, educationist, writer, poet, philanthropist and a benefactor to many. A man who began his humble career as a teacher; his life and work dedicated to the service of the people has been an inspiration to many.
Prior to the release of the book, TR Zeliang has described Dr Shürhozelie not only the senior most and respected Naga politician but also a true scholar and a true gentleman. He also said that only few people can match the record and achievements of Dr Shürhozelie and congratulated the authors for writing the biography of Dr Shürhozelie, one of the most worthy and interesting subject which will be a source of inspiration not only to the present generation but for the future generation of Nagas as well.
In a personal tribute to the great man, Zeliang has thanked Dr Shürhozelie for being the most dependable and solid rock behind the DAN government. He said it is only through his political acumen and wisdom combine with his tall standing as a respectable veteran politician and statesman that have helped the past and present DAN government to survive its worst ordeals and trails during the early part of the year.
He also thanked him for his valuable contributions in the steering and steadying the ship of the present DAN government. He also said it looks forward for his continuous guidance in the days to come, and prays for his good health and longevity so that he continue to be the source of strength and blessing to the government of Nagaland and to the people of the state as a whole.
Also the addressing the gathering, TN Mannen, IAS (Retd), Chancellor, The Global Open University Nagaland has also depicted Dr Shürhozelie as one of the tallest leaders among the contemporary Nagas, who is not afraid to face any tough challenges in life, who could overcome the toughest stand with hard work, determination and commitment to any task he undertakes. He said right from the early days, Dr Shürhozelie has proved himself as a man who is capable, clear headed and trustworthy.
Dr Imotemsu Ao, who is the Director cum Registrar of the Global Open University and Dr Tiatoshi Jamir, Associate Professor, Department of History & Archaeology, Nagaland University in their short address have expressed their immense gratitude to Dr Shürhozelie Liezietsu for giving them the opportunity to write his biography, and for his support and cooperation toward the successful release of the book. They expressed hope that the book will be an inspiration to many especially the future generation.
The programme was hosted by Tiatemjen Tzudir while the invocation was offered by Sentisashi Aier, Associate Pastor, KABA. The programme saw the attendance of hosts of MLAs, parliamentary secretaries, advisors, intellectuals and well wishers.
According to the authors only a limited edition of 100 copies were printed, however they informed that it will be available to the public after a month at The Heritage and Western Book Depot, Kohima.
