Clamor for answers about job policy grows

The job reservation policy, which continues to divide the local Naga tribal communities, continues to be a platform for local students’ organizations to vex the government of Nagaland.
A local community students’ organization has asked the government of Nagaland to “justify the ENSF demand” at the earliest “without any hesitation”. The local group, Confederation of Chang Students’ Union (CCSU), issued a press release on Thursday, July 16.
The organization went as far as to even “warn” all the government heads of offices in Tuensang district to “strictly adhere to the state government notification on job reservation policy”.
The CCSU has expressed ‘strong support’ to the representation given to the state government by the Eastern Naga Students’ Federation demanding “justification report on the failure of the state government for non implementation of the 25% job reservation guaranteed to the eastern Nagas since 1977”. “When the state government is having an employment of more than 1, 50,000, the employment status of eastern Naga’s have less than 15% which is a direct injustice to equal opportunity and representatives in the government,” the organization claimed. “It is also to be noted that government employees from the Chang Community is very less where 90% are IV grades only,” the organization claimed further.
The local group also expressed ‘pain’ that even grade-IV posts which were allegedly “reserved 100% for the indigenous inhabitant” were being filled and “sent from the so called high level depriving the indigenous people”.
In addition, the CCSU said, “many employee’s were transferred out along with post out of the district to other district in the verge of their retirement and when they retire, vacancies are being created in that district and use to fill up from that particular tribe and district which is a direct manipulation by the state government as to fulfill their selfish interest”.
In the claims of the CCSU, “even in the directorate and secretariat level, no department have implemented the 25% job reservation even after the state government have given official notification on the same”. According to this year “employee’s data collection”, the Chang students stated, “in some department that there are more employees of other tribes than indigenous inhabitants in Tuensang district”.
The CCSU has issued a caution to all government departments in Tuensang district against violating the job reservation policy. Likewise, the group has also demanded from the government ‘justification’ at the earliest, and ‘without any hesitation’.
‘In this regard, the confederation asked the state government to justify the ENSF demand at the earliest without any hesitation and also warned all the heads of departments of Tuensang district to strictly adhere to the state government notification on job reservation policy. Failing to comply the concern will be held solely responsible,’ the press release added.
