Charity School Kohima hunts for ‘Student of the year’

Charity School, Kohima, has initiated and began a unique competition, ‘Student of the Year 2014,’ at a function held in its premises on February 21. Arguably the first of its kind in Nagaland, a total of 30 students will compete for the mentioned title over a period of 36 weeks.
Speaking at the opening ceremony, Dr. Helena Belho, Administrator of the school, has challenged the students to be committed and willing to change themselves before they think of changing the world. Keeping in line with the theme of the competition ‘You can be a world changer,’ she encouraged the students to believe in themselves to make a difference in the world.
Over the course of the competition for the title, the selected students will be judged on various categories like sports, music, communication skills, debates, observational skill, creativity, self-management, leadership skills etc. Apart from all these competitions, seminars for the contestants in order to equip them to be more responsible leaders and citizens will also be conducted.
Resource persons for the seminars would include noted social activist Niketu Iralu, senior journalist Oken Jeet Sandham, Fr. Abraham Lotha, Dr. Sanyü Iralu, Robert Solo, Pfheluopfelie Kesiezie, Vicavor Krose, Dr. Helena Belho, Athem Raman, Kezharoko Pierü, Kevichülie Meyase, Assistant Pastor Jonathan Mesen and Meneno Mesen.
The school has announced that the winner of the competition will be awarded a year’s scholarship along with the trophy and certificate. Besides the winner, the top 5 will also be awarded prizes.
Charity School in Kohima was established in 1987 and is managed by the Angami Catholic Women Organization.
