Dimapur, Jan. 9 (EMN): The state chief electoral officer V Shashank Shekhar, along with officers of CEO’s office held a meeting of the State Steering Committee on Accessible Election (SSCAE) at the CEO office on Monday.
The meeting was held to deliberate issues on accessible elections with regard to forthcoming general election to Nagaland Legislative Assembly, 2023. The steering committee was chaired by, CEO, Nagaland, an update informed.
Some of the important issues discussed in the meeting were people with disabilities (PwD) mapping and enrolment of voters, free transportation, polling station infrastructures (like location of the polling station on the ground floor/providing ramps/wheelchairs/volunteers for PwDs and senior citizens on the polling day), preparation of pictorial representation through posters and videos and sign language interpreters, appointment of accessible observers, IT infrastructure and accessible communication, training and sensitisation of polling personnel for facilitation of PwDs and senior citizens, coordination and partnership with CSOs/NGOs, home voting facilities and helpline facilities for PwDs and senior citizens.
The State Steering Committee on Accessible Election (SSCAE) members who attended the meeting included Dr. E Motsuthung Patton, addl. director, Health & Family Welfare department; Diethono Nakhro, state commissioner for PwDs; Dr. Nitovi Shikhu, deputy director, H&FW; Temsunaro Aier, mission director, Samagra Shiksha (SS), School Education department; Dr. Chumbeni Kikon, joint mission director, SS, School Education; Lanusenla Lemtur, coordinator SS; Tongpang L Jamir, Nagaland Parents’ Association for Disabled and Venedulu Vero, research officer, Social Welfare department.
DC & DEO Kohima briefs election nodal officers
A meeting of all the nodal officers of different election cells, in connection with the ensuing state assembly election, 2023, was held at DC’s conference hall, Kohima, on Monday.
Deputy Commissioner & District Election Officer, Kohima, Shanavas C, in his briefing to the nodal officers, highlighted the roles and responsibilities of nodal officers of different election cells.
Shanavas called upon them to be mentally prepared and form their respective teams before the announcement of the election, a DIPR report stated. He also emphasised on various important sections of election process and asked them to start working with their respective team for smooth functioning of the election process.
The meeting also had a detailed discussion on the management of manpower, training, material and transports and other different election cells, it stated.
