CAN set to observe 39th convention

Catholic Association of Nagaland (CAN) is set to celebrate its 39th convention from January 13 to the 16th at St. Joseph College in Jakhama under Kohima district on the theme “Credible witnesses of Christ.”

The convention, which is organised once in three years, is expected to witness over 3000 delegates during the four-day event. This was announced during a press conference on Thursday addressed by Johnny Raungmei, president of CAN, along with its advisor, Rovilato Mor; and other members including Rev. Dr. Fr. George Rino, Rev. Fr. Obed Yimkhiung, Marina, Abou Catherine, and Peter, president of Southern Angami Catholic Union (SACU).

Ruangmei informed that speakers of the events would include Rev. Dr. Deacon Sherman Kuek (OFS); John Silshi; and Nosazol Charles, advisor of CAN and state information commissioner.

It informed the Rev. Dr. James Thoppil, Bishop of Kohima Diocese, would be the chief patron, while KD Vizo, principal secretary to the chief minister of Nagaland, would the special guest, and Elias Vas, president All India Catholic Union (AICU), as the guest of honour.

It was informed that ‘Eucharistic procession’ would be organised on Sunday morning after the holy Eucharist, which would be a first of its kind in Southern Angami area wherein people from different communities would take part.

Raungmei informed that the convention would focus on learning Catholic social teachings, dignity of human life, and other principles with participation from across the state to show oneness of the Catholic churches.

Rev. Fr. Dr. George Rino expressed delight about the event and exuded hope that the convention would a platform for the participants to learn and grow.

Meanwhile, Rev. Fr. Obed informed that the Eucharistic procession would commence at the main gate of St. Joseph College towards the National Highway and culminated at the college.
