Body found at Jotsoma reservoir, water supply halted
KOHIMA — A dead body, reportedly of an employee in Nagaland’s Power department, was found at the PHED Water Reservoir in Jotsoma on Wednesday.
According to the Additional Superintendent of Police, Kohima, and PRO, the body was found around 8 am on Wednesday, and the case is being treated as an unnatural death (UD).
A formal case has been registered at Zubza Police station, and an inquiry has been initiated to investigate the cause of death.
The PRO mentioned that it is premature to determine whether it was a result of foul play or an accident, and the conclusive report will only be available after the completion of the inquiry.
Despite the uncertainty regarding how long the body had been in the water, the relatively cold temperature prevented decomposition, as per the PRO. Upon identification, the deceased’s body was handed over to family members.
Sources said that the person could have gone missing for about four days.
Following this incident, the distribution of water from the reservoir to parts of Kohima and Jotsoma has been temporarily halted.
In response to the situation, the Public Health Engineering Department, Kohima Urban Division, has issued a notification, informing the general public in Kohima town and the Kohima Science College area that there will be no water supply for the next two days due to urgent maintenance at the Water Treatment Plant. The department expressed regret for the inconvenience caused.
