Blood donors give to the cause on Blood Donation Day

Dimapur, Oct. 2 (EMN): On the occasion of ‘National Voluntary Blood Donation Day, the District Aids Control Programme unit (DAPCU) of Zunheboto in collaboration with the Zunheboto District Blood Donors Association organised a blood donation camp on October 1.

It was conducted at Cornerstone Higher Secondary School in Zunheboto. The motto for the program was “At least donate once in a lifetime,” a press release informed on Wednesday.

K Akaho Sema, deputy chief medical officer of Zunheboto addressed the event. Addressing the people at the programme, he said “Blood donors are the messengers of hope,” adding that more awareness and sensitization about blood donation need to be created. He said there is no “substitute for human blood” and assured that donating blood is a safe process.

Sema mentioned that in India, “4 crore blood units is required every year and only 40 lakh blood unit is available.” Every two seconds, the official said, a person needs blood.

“A person can start donating blood from the age of 18 till 60 years and one can donate 168 times in a life time,” he informed.
