Dimapur, March 17 (EMN): A daylong programme on financial literacy was conducted on March 17 at Meriema village for women. The programme was organized by the Nagaland State Social Welfare Board, NMDFC, SRCW supported by the NABARD.

The camp was organized to equip womenfolk with various support facilities through the bank to enable them to improve and promote sustainable and equitable agriculture and rural development, a press release from the organisers stated on Thursday.

For the financial literacy camp, JA Shimray, senior branch manager of the Bank of Baroda spoke on the topic ‘Importance of Banking.’ He said that banking in the remote areas had become an important issue in the country. He spoke on the importance of financial planning and explained that proper financial planning helps citizens to set short and long-terms financial goals.

The planning will help in proper utilization of finance and in setting their goals ‘which clarify their ideas to focus on their wants and needs,’ Shimray said.

The bank official also explained briefly the different types of saving facilities and the benefits that come with them. Shimray cited examples of how people are able to avail benefits from various Social Security Schemes.

‘It is mandatory that everyone should have a bank account which is operational so that one can avail the loan and the insurances policies related to health, accident, and pension schemes etc. from the bank,’ he said.

Further, Shimary spoke about the significance of digital banking and encouraged the participants to adopt cashless banking services which he said would save time, energy and most importantly, ensure transparency. He encouraged them to be “sensitised enough on cashless policy to face any chances regarding finance in the coming years,” the press release stated.
