Badminton, chess tourneys underway in Zunheboto
DIMAPUR — The Zunheboto district under-18 badminton tournament for girls kicked off at Zunheboto Indoor Stadium on October 23, with Deputy Commissioner, Rahul Bhanudas Mali, as the special guest.
The DC, in his speech, encouraged the players to give their best and play with game spirit. Mali he also encouraged the Zunheboto District Badminton Association officials to promote girls at the state level, an update stated.
Meanwhile, the first Zunheboto District Chess Tournament got underway at Youth Hall, Zunheboto, on October 23 on theme ‘Empowering younger generation through chess.’
A total of 24 players in u-16 category and 21 players in open category are taking part in the tournament, an update stated.
The tournament was graced by Zhekugha Assumi, principal of Step by Step School and advisor of Zunheboto Table Tennis Association, as the guest of honour.
Assumi emphasised on the importance of chess and also urged the players to focus not only on winning as participating is equally important.
