AYO ready for October 5 ‘save environment’ call with reminder

Dimapur, October 4 : The Angami Youth Organisation (AYO) has appealed to vehicles owners to stay off road during “A moment of solidarity to enable our environment” within the jurisdiction of Kohima district beginning from 6am and till 6 pm on October 5. The organization has also urged mills, crushers, print and fabrication houses, workshops, and cafes, and constructing agents that use planners and other power-driven equipments, etc., to shut down for the day.

The following are exempted from the purview: The district administration, the police and paramilitary forces on duty, first responders of the district, media persons, doctors and nurses, fire services, etc., and people in emergency and ‘important engagements’; schools, students and faculties on schedule; people attending weddings, festivals and funerals; government officials, HODs/AHODs and departmental buses
The AYO issued a note on Tuesday. The AYO also clarified that the event was not a bandh. No restriction on ‘human movement’ and activities will be imposed under any manner, except on the engagement or use of ‘the medium as stated. The organisation has impressed upon all government establishments to maintain ‘mandatory attendance on the day’ though.

The AYO expected that business establishments, institutions, offices, schools, etc., would remain open and be ‘fully functional as in all other working days.’

The AYO said the initiative was to encourage in the generation attitudinal and behavioural change towards nature and environment ‘for a world that would enable decent and convenient living for the future generations.’

Motor rally

The Kohima and Dimapur Forest divisions will hold a motor cycle / vehicle rally in commemoration of Wild Life Week on October 6. The Nagaland Motor Cycle Club and the Western Angami Students’ Organisation will take part in the rally, which will commence from Dimapur at 9 am and culminate in Kohima at around 1 pm. The rally aims to create awareness against hunting and sale of wildlife meat in the villages. In this connection, the deputy commissioner of Kohima, Rovilatuo Mor, has requested stakeholders to cooperate.
