MOKOKCHUNG — Taking cognizance on the proliferation of door-to-door selling of all kind of items in the town by non local hawkers, the All Ward Union Mokokchung Town (AWUMT) has alerted the concerned authority for urgent intervention.
In a letter submitted to the ADC of Mokokchung and administrator of Mokokchung Municipal Council (MMC) on Friday, AWUMT stated that there could be certain benefits brought about by such hawkers but the abnormal growth in their numbers in recent times is alarming and warrant urgent intervention.
“The potential threats posed by unabated number of unknown non-local persons lurking around every corner of the town, visiting almost every household unsolicited is not only disturbing from the security point of view but also incompatible with the social mores and norms of the locals,” AWUMT asserted.
In this connection, AWUMT informed that it has resolved during its presidential council meeting held on May 24 to forbid all such non-local vendors in all the 18 wards of Mokokchung town. It added that those caught would be dealt with sternly.
It, therefore, the authority concerned to intervene in the best interest before any untoward incident happened.
