DIMAPUR — The Agricultural Technology Management Agency (ATMA), Longleng conducted a Kisan Mela on May 30 at the KVK training centre, Longleng.
The event featured Dr. Hari Charan Kalita, senior scientist and head of KVK Longleng, as the special guest, according to an update.
Dr. Kalita shared his expertise on hybrid rice and outlined the centre’s vision for the future, offering encouragement to the farmer participants.
During the technical session, Kepesielie Kent, soil conservation assistant from the Department of Soil and Water Conservation, Longleng, educated the farmers on soil health and soil testing. Langnyei Angh, the CEO of Farmer Producer Organisation (FPO) Longleng, highlighted the functions and principles of FPOs.
Representatives from allied departments, including Agriculture, Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Services, Horticulture and Fisheries, and Aquatic Resources, highlighted the various schemes and ongoing projects of their respective departments.
They also addressed queries from the farmer participants at the end of each session.
The event featured practical demonstrations by Lengoi Nemdakly, ATM Sakshi Block, on the preparation of Bordeaux mixture and waste decomposers. Additionally, leaflets printed in Phom language on various agriculture-related topics as well as waste decomposer kits were distributed to all the farmer participants.
The programme was planned and executed under the leadership of ATMA project director and DSO, Mhao Humtsoe and deputy project director Mhonthung Merry, ensuring a comprehensive and impactful experience for the farmers.
The programme was chaired by Aienla, BTM Longleng block, while Tenhnyei, ATM Longleng block, delivered the vote of thanks.
A total of 37 farmers from 17 villages attended the event.
