Athletes battle for podium finish across events in Kohima

KOHIMA — The 3rd North East Games, hosted by Nagaland, continued into its second day on Wednesday with a lineup of events in Kohima. Competitions such as the 10,000m race, shot put, 400m, and 4x100m relay took place at the IG Stadium in Kohima.

In the men’s 10,000m race, Damber Kumar Basnet from Sikkim clinched the gold, finishing the race in 31 minutes and 55.678 seconds. Kh Romajit Singh from Manipur secured silver with a time of 32 minutes and 9.538 seconds, closely followed by Wede Tmero from Nagaland, who won bronze with a time of 32 minutes and 11.288 seconds.

In the women’s category, Tsuchoi T from Nagaland claimed the gold with a time of 38 minutes and 37.633 seconds. Anjuli Subba, representing Sikkim, secured the silver with a time of 39 minutes and 22.401 seconds, while Joti Mane from Arunachal Pradesh took the bronze with a time of 39 minutes and 52.941 seconds.

In the men’s shot put event, Venuzo Dhawhuo from Nagaland won the gold with a throw of 11.99 metres. Madhujya Arandh, representing Assam, secured the silver with a distance of 12.47 metres, while Seyiekhrietuo Yiese from Nagaland clinched the bronze with a throw of 12.12 metres.

In the women’s event, Laimwn Narzary from Assam claimed the gold with a throw of 10.62 metres. Madhusmita Nath, also representing Assam, secured the silver with a distance of 9.96 metres, while Vilabeinuo Mechu from Nagaland took the bronze with a throw of 9.09 metres.

In the men’s 400m event, Munna Kumar from Assam claimed the gold by finishing the race in 49.12 seconds. Sumiran Chettri, representing Sikkim, secured the silver with a time of 49.40 seconds, while Oinam Sanajaoba from Manipur won the bronze with a time of 50.43 seconds.

In the women’s event, Mainu Dhanwar from Assam secured gold with a performance time of 1 minute and 1.11 seconds. Ritina Hanse, representing Meghalaya, claimed silver, clocking in at 1 minute and 2.05 seconds, while Songmo P from Nagaland confirmed the bronze with a time of 1 minute and 2.95 seconds.

In the men’s 4x100m relay, Nagaland’s team, comprised of Nekhoto Tinyi, Kevichutuo Lhoung, Rongsenmeren, and Neiketoulie Belho, clinched gold with a time of 42.77 seconds. Manipur’s team, consisting of Takhellambam John, Moirangthem, Md Duad Khan, and Mayengbam Alken, secured silver with a time of 44.09 seconds, while Meghalaya’s team, including Repol Dkhar, Kyrshanlang Shyli, Henry Yoga A, and Renaldi Dhar, won bronze with a time of 44.23 seconds.

In the women’s event, the team from Assam, consisting of Parmita Das, Ambrika Narzary, Diksha Chetri, and Rimpl Buragohain, secured gold with a performance time of 50.71 seconds. Tripura’s team, comprising Dipshikha S, Yasmin Aktar, Jarana Debnath, and Fatema Begam, claimed silver with a time of 52.32 seconds, while Nagaland’s team, composed of Dziesengunuo Solo, Tsujen, Khrieno Keyho, and Neshe Maonyu K, secured bronze with a time of 53.60 seconds.

While speaking with Eastern Mirror, Munna Kumar, the gold medalist of the men’s 400m race, expressed happiness at winning the event with a time of 49.12 in Nagaland. However, he mentioned that his personal best is 48.79 from a previous competition.

Mainu Dhanwar, the gold medalist in the women’s 400m race, expressed her satisfaction with her performance and stated that she had worked hard to earn the gold medal. She extended her gratitude to her parents and coach for their continuous support and motivation, which she attributed to her success.
