Assam Rifles conduct interactive programmes for farmers

Kohima, Sep. 15 (EMN): To encourage farmers and enhance the growth of indigenous crops at home, backyards and fields, the 3 (NH) Battalion of Assam Rifles under the aegis of headquarter Inspector General Assam Rifles (North) organised the first ever lecture cum interaction with specialists and farmers at its auditorium on Sep. 15.
The primary focus of the programme was to educate the farmers on the skills and knowledge to increase productivity and also to educate on the available schemes and loans.

Peihauding Reunim, a botanist along with his team of 12 members as resource persons explained in detail on the do and don’ts on organic farming, soil management, cultivation of crops, post-harvest management and marketing.

Presenting some guidelines on the ways and methods on how to enhance the growth of indigenous plants in their home/backyards and fields, the farmers were also briefed on how to take care of soil to produce both ‘quality and quantity crops’ without having to put any extra efforts.

The specialists also emphasised on post-harvest management so that fertility of soil does not degrade and also on how to market their products to get good price of their crops.

In order to reap maximum benefits out of their crops, the farmers were explained on how to apply innovative organic farming in agriculture and devices to check soil fertility. The farmers were also briefed covering subjects like harvesting, storage, preservation, packing and transportation.

The programme also highlighted the loan facilities at lower rates and other benefits from the Land resources, horticulture department etc. They were also educated on both the central and state government schemes for betterment of farmers such as Pradhan Mantri Kisan Sampada Yojana, Nagaland Depot of Land Resources,

State Agricultural resources station, Coffee board of India and Spices Board of India. The resource persons also informed about all the institutions that provide loan to individual and group of farmers at normal rates.

A total of 78 farmers from Kohima Village, Jotsoma, Phesama, Pfuchama, Viswema, Jakhama, Kigwema, Mima, Chedema and Meriema attended the lecture cum interaction programme.
