AR wins inter- CPMFs debate competition

Dimapur, August 20 (EMN): Assam Rifles won the annual Northeast zone inter- Central Para-Military Forces (CPMFs) debate competitions in both Hindi and English categories organised by the Assam Rifle Training Centre and School (ARTC&S), Dimapur, held on August 18.
The topic of the debate “Security forces observing human rights are better equipped to meet challenges to national security” was chosen by the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) with a view to sensitise the security forces about human rights and related issues while dealing with the public.
In a tight contest of seven teams comprising the Assam Rifles, BSF, CRPF, CISF, SSB, RPF and the ITBP representing CPMFs based in the Northeast Region, Assam Rifles secured first position in the Hindi category, while the BSF and SSB secured second and third positions respectively. In the English category, Assam Rifles secured first position, while the CISF and BSF secured second and third position respectively.
Brigadier Gurjap Singh, DIG of ARTC & School, was the chief guest of the event. Eminent personalities such as Prof. Bharat Singh Pamar, Regional Director of Central Institute of Hindi; Mrs Suparna Roy Choudhury, Principal of Hollotoli School, Dimapur; and Bhaskar Kumar Nanda, Principal of Delhi Public School, Dimapur, were present as the jury members of the event. The masters of the ceremony were Hav/AEC Harendra Kumar and Hav/AEC Sandeep Singh PS.
Each force was represented by four speakers, who debated ‘For’ and ‘Against’ the motion in Hindi and English respectively.
The chief guest presented memento to the judges and gave away prizes to the winners. The chief guest also enlightened the audience regarding the essential provisions of the law affecting human rights and their effective use. He emphasised that people in uniform must constantly strive to adhere to the law of the land and operate within the directives of the government.
He appreciated the efforts put in by the participants and made a special reference to the efficient conduct of the event by the organisers. He further informed that the semi final/final round of debate competition will be held in New Delhi in the month of August-September 2017.
