AR pays homage to martyrs in Mokokchung

DIMAPUR — Assam Rifles (AR) on April 14 organised a wreath laying ceremony in honour of Rifleman Late Nokzar Ao at his native Mangmetong village in Mokokchung district.

A defence release stated that Late Nokzar Ao made supreme sacrifice for the nation on April 14, 2009, in general area of Leisin Kongkan located in Kamjong district of Manipur.

It stated that a total of three officers along with 22 junior commissioned officer (JCO) and 70 ORs including NOK and relatives of Late Nokzar Ao attended the ceremony.

In a related programme, Assam Rifles organised a ‘wreath laying ceremony’ in honour of Lance Naik Late Narju Gurung, who laid down his life in the line of duty on April 12, 1971, at general area in Yankhosa Junction in Nagaland during an operation.

It stated that a total of three officers, 22 JCO and 106 OR paid their tributes to the gallant soldier who made supreme sacrificed on April 12, 1971.

Meanwhile, the Assam Rifles organised a lecture with 35 graduates of Zunheboto Government College along with 15 residents on April 12.

The lecture delved into the historical significance of the Jallianwala Bagh massacre and its profound lessons for today’s generation. The event aimed to raise awareness among the students and locals about the historic day.

Speaking at the programme, Amrendra Kumar, principal of Assam Rifle Public School, elucidated on importance of the day in the national history and also paid tributes to the fallen heroes of the nation.

It stated that the participants were moved by the accounts of history in which innocent Indians were massacred by General Dyer of British India.

Report stated that the lecture united local residents, community leaders and Assam Rifles in fostering patriotism. It added that students have pledged to foster unity contribute to the nation’s progress by echoing the sentiment of “My nation, my pride.”
