DIMAPUR, SEPTEMBER 25

The 2nd All Nagaland Private Schools’ Association (ANPSA) Basketball and Volleyball tournament 2015 kicked off today here at Don Bosco Higher Secondary School, Dimapur.
The tournament with participants from 21 schools is being held for students of Classes XI and XII category and from Classes X and below levels.
Rev. Fr. Nestor Garia from Provincial of Salesian Province graced the occasion as the chief guest and also hoisted the tournament flag.
Speaking to Eastern Mirror on the sideline of the opening ceremony, Dr. R Francis, Sports Secretary of ANPSA, Dimapur Unit, said winning is not very important in any games and sporting events but insisted that taking part in true sportsmanship is important. “We use to conduct ANPSA sports in order to promote unity and understanding among us,” Francis said. He added that despite possessing inherent talent among the Nagas, they have not been exposed through proper channel.
“In order to find those talents who can represent the State and nation, we are giving this platform,” he maintained.
While lamenting the ill effect of drugs and other intoxicants which are prevailing among many Naga youth, Dr. Francis said drugs and games and sports cannot go hand in hand.
ANPSA, Dimapur Unit, is a conglomerate of 65 schools.
Earlier, invocation prayer was offered by Rev. Fr. CT Varghese, Rector of Don Bosco Higher Secondary School, while a special number was presented by students of DBHSS, Dimapur, and the welcome address was pronounced by Andrew Ahoto, ANPSA President, Dimapur.
The final and closing ceremony would be held on September 26.
