Another day of dirty work for police: Extortionists and runaway bikes

The past two days of police work for Dimapur and Kohima’s enforcement revolved mostly around extortionists and stolen transport. Police authorities from the two establishment issued separate press releases on Wednesday informing of different counts of arrests in connection with various offences committed during the past two days.
NSCN-K cadre caught by 19th Assam Rifles
Security forces have apprehended a cadre of the NSCN (K) in Kohima. Kohima police authorities informed on June 17, Wednesday, that the cadre identified as one Khekikho Aye, a self styled “lieutenant” of the group was apprehended by personnel of the 19th Assam Rifles in the heart of the capital town. The authorities issued a press release in this connection. The authorities said that the security forces started the pursuit from Classic Island in the town and intercepted the taxi form Zubza, kilometers away from the capital.
Police said that the cadre was apprehended on June 16, when he was travelling in a taxi. “Personnel of 19 Assam Rifles under the command of one Junior Commission Officer made pursue of the matter from classic island Kohima and intercepted the taxi from Zubza area. In this connection one NSCN (K) cadre was apprehended and recovered one cash receipt of NSCN/GPRN-K and Rs. 8, 480 from his possession,” Kohima police said in the note.
The underground activist is 50 years old and hails from Tichepami village under Zunheboto district. “The cadre was accordingly handed over to Kohima South Police Station on 17/06/2015 at around 0030 hrs,” the press release said, adding that the police are conducting further investigation.
Extortion: Undergrounds arrested
In a similar case Dimapur police have arrested three cadres of two different underground groups on charges of extortion, during the past two days. The accused were arrested from various locations, the police said in a press release on Wednesday, June 17.
On June 16, police received complaints that some antisocial were extorting from vehicles plying in the brick kilns area in Bamunpukhuri-B village in Dimapur. A person identified as one Atsa Sangtam from Kiphire district was arrested. He had on his person cash and extortion notes of the FGN, police said.
Likewise, on June 15, two persons were arrested from the Dellai gate areas in Dimapur on charges of extorting from vehicles. The two persons have been identified as one Tia Ao of Changki village under Mokokchung district and a resident of Aoyimsen, in Dimapur. Police said he has been reported to be a SS “maj.” of NNC (NA).
The other person was identified as Elamo Ngullie of Rilan village. Cash and extortion slips were seized from their possession, police said.
Two stolen motorbikes found
In Dimapur, the authorities have recovered two motorbikes the police said were stolen. Dimapur police has informed on Wednesday, June 17, that a person has been arrested in connection with one of the two cases.
On June 15, personnel of the Dimapur Police were conducting mobile checking when they happended into a Yamaha R-15 that had fake registration number. The bike was found to be reported lost on June 10, the authorities said.
In this connection, one Nikheto Zhimo, of Thilixu village in Dimapur has been arrested.
Likewise, police seized on June 16 another Yamaha, a FZ-16 that had a fake registration number. The motorbike was ridden by one Jusain Tandi of Mokrong village under Giladhari Police Station of Golaghat district in Assam.
Update about Illegal immigrants
Updates from the Dimapur police have informed that six persons have been detained following their being caught on June 16, for not possessing Inner Line permits. They were detained at the Chumukedima check Gate for “non possession of ILP” and have been forwarded to the court for prosecution.
Dead body found
Police also informed that the authorities have found a dead body of a non-local person. On June 17, the dead body of an unidentified female, aged approximately 50 years old, was found lying opposite Dr. Sethi Nursing Home, Old Market, in Dimapur. The body “was wearing a pink blouse, half nude covered with an old blanket, suspected to have died due to illness,” the police said.
The dead body has been kept in the Civil Hospital Morgue for post mortem examination and identification, the authorities said.
