Angami Sports Association wrestling championship all set to begin tomorrow

DIMAPUR — The much-anticipated 52nd Angami Sports Association (ASA) wrestling championship is all set to begin at Khuochiezie (local ground) in Kohima on Saturday.

The stage is ready for action with the Angami Catholic Union and led by organising committee convenor Neiba Bernard Pienyü having meticulously prepared to accommodate thousands of wrestling lovers at the venue, said an update from the organizers.

Top wrestlers from the Angami community, including defending champion Kezhaseluo-o Pienyü are geared for the prestigious title.

Representing the four ranges, reigning champions include Kezhaseluo-o Pineyü from the Northern Angami Sports Association (NASA), Atuo Tevo from the Southern Angami Sports Association (SASA), Seyiejalie Gwirie from the Western Angami Sports Association (WAYO), and Keneisetuo Kire from the Chakhroma Youth Organisation (CYO).

The tournament will kick off with WAYO wrestlers taking on SASA wrestlers and NASA against CYO in the first round, while SASA will take on CYO wrestlers and WAYO against NASA in the second round. The update went on to inform that NASA wrestlers will take on SASA, and CYO against WAYO in the third round.

As many as 60 wrestlers will compete in the mega event, which is expected to draw a huge crowd.

Nagaland Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio will be the chief guest of the inaugural ceremony, while MLA Dr. Tseilhoutuo Rhütso will be the guest of honor.

The champion will receive a cash prize of INR 2,50,000, while those securing the second, third, and fourth positions will be awarded INR 1,70,000, INR 1,30,000, and INR 1,00,000, respectively.

Furthermore, quarter-finalists will receive INR 20,000 each, best tactics award winner will receive INR 15,000, while participants will be given INR 2,500.

Subsequently, eighteen exceptional wrestlers will be selected to represent the Angami community at the upcoming Nagaland Wrestling Association (NWA) meet on March 26.

Meanwhile, the ticket rates have been fixed at: Donor – INR 2,000; balcony – INR 500; Chair A – INR 500; Chair B – INR 200; and Chair C – INR 100.
