DIMAPUR — The All Nagaland Gorkha Students’ Union (ANGSU), one of the state’s oldest Gorkha organisations, was reformed on Sunday and held its general meeting in Kohima.
According to an ANGSU press release, ANGSU, which had been the backbone of the Nagaland Gorkha Association (NGA), had been defunct for several years, and the union was reformed under the Initiative of the NGA, Gorkha Public Panchayat Kohima (GPPK), and Gorkha Students Union Kohima (GSUK).
The release stated that the reason behind the reformation of the ANGSU is to empower the education and physical activities of the Gorkha student community within Nagaland.
The ANGSU reformative general meeting was held at the GPPK multi-utility hall in Kohima.
The new ANGSU team will be led by John Thakuri of Kohima as the new president, Yommi Rai of Kohima as general secretary, Sunil Limbu of Dimapur and Michael Subba of Mokokchung as vice presidents, Prabhat Rai of Mokokchung as assistant general secretary, Maya Bardewa of Chümoukedima as finance and treasurer, and Upasna Rai of Chümoukedima as press and information secretary.
NGA president Nobin Pradhan exhorted the gathering while founding member of ANGSU (1974) Buddhi Bahadur Thapa shared a brief history of ANGSU.
Jenny Lamechane Chettri, vice president of GSUK, presided over the meeting, and GPPK vice president Prabhu Gurung proposed the vote of thanks.
