AKM, SKK call off proposed ‘indefinite shutdown’ in Mokokchung and Zunheboto
Advisor Yhome apologises to Ao and Sumi communities
DIMAPUR — The Ao Students’ Conference (AKM) and the All Sumi Students’ Union (SKK) have called off the proposed indefinite shutdown of government offices and educational institutions under Mokokchung and Zunheboto districts.
In a joint press release issued on Monday, the student bodies stated that the decision was taken “after careful consideration and in light of recent developments, including the apology letter issued by Dr. Kekhrie Yhome, MLA and Advisor for School Education and SCERT, and the government’s response.”
Earlier in the day, Dr. Yhome had issued a circular categorically stating that it was not his intention to deprive any deserving aspirant.
“I am pained to learn that my statements of February 6 and the 16th have deeply hurt the sentiments of our communities, namely Ao and Sumi tribes. I also understand that the public perceptions of my statements have created confusion.
“I express my sincere apology if my aforementioned speech and statement has hurt anyone. I earnestly appeal for goodwill and understanding,” he stated.
Against this backdrop, the apex student bodies of the two communities appreciated the gesture of apology extended by the advisor and acknowledged the importance of maintaining dialogue and constructive engagement in addressing concerns affecting our communities.
Urging all stakeholders to continue fostering an atmosphere of mutual respect and understanding, conducive to the well-being and progress of society, it further stated that all government offices, institutions, schools, and colleges under the jurisdiction of Mokokchung and Zunheboto districts will operate as usual, without any disruption.
