DIMAPUR — ANMA Integrated Development Association (AIDA) celebrated International Workers Day or Labour Day by conducting mass cleanliness drive with the five adopted villages — Khriezephe, Diezephe, Urra, Bade and Tsithrongse on Monday. May Day

The activity was led by the village council members and the community in general.

May Day, also called Workers’ Day or International Workers’ Day is dedicated to the historic struggles and gains made by workers and the labour movement. In 1889, an international federation of socialists and trade unions in Europe decided to celebrate on May 1 of each year, as May Day/International Workers Day/Labour Day. At present, it is observed across 60 countries, an udpate stated. May Day is also a time where people from different races and cultures come together to celebrate the joy of life together.

AIDA, through SBI Gram Seva with the adopted villages “celebrated this day by conducting mass cleanliness drive, honoring the workers by coming together and creating unity and togetherness within the community”.

“This day is to remember and reflect oneself and appreciate the beauty of nature and the importance of community and also remembering peoples’ struggles for social justice and workers’ rights,” it added.
