Dimapur, July 24 (EMN): An organisation called the Naga United Village Ao Senso Telongjem has appealed to the authorities to provide transportation facilities to students who the group said had been affected in the aftermath of the Chathe River bridge—connecting the village’s areas to the town—collapsing.
The organisation issued a press release on Monday. The statement was addressed to the deputy commissioner of Dimapur.
The press release stated: ‘The Naga United village Ao Senso Telongjem would like to bring to your knowledge that it has been more than two weeks now since the collapse of the Chathe River bridge on 11/07/2017 but till now nothing has been done by the concerned authorities to mitigate the problem of the general public starting from Naga United Village till Nuiland sub-division when thousands of people and hundreds of villages are settled.’
Now that the summer vacations for students are almost over, the organisation stated, their parents are dismayed to see the “apathetic concern of the authorities in dealing with the situation which is quite surprising.”
Most of the parents are labourers and daily wage earner whose children are studying in areas beyond the Chathe River, the statement explained. The fares for auto rickshaws range Rs. 150 per passenger between Showuba to 4th mile, the organisation stated.
‘It is beyond our strength to send our children to schools and college with a travel time of more than one and half hour it is beyond our human comprehension to send our children to their respective institution, moreover in our village itself we have government high school, one collage, 3 private schools catering to the needs of hundreds of students and facilities who needs to cross the river to reach their institution.’
The Naga United Village Ao Senso Telongjem also mentioned the sick and distressed who it explained need immediate medical attention, with the nearer hospital being the Referral Hospital.
‘The common people are suffering beyond human imagination. The Ao Senso Union would also like to request your kind authority to kindly extend the NST bus service till the Naga United Village Daily bazaar at the earliest so as to cater to the needs of the citizen living on this side facing untold miseries,’ the press release stated.
“With the public running high and dry on every aspects of life, we request your concerned authority to kindly address to the problems of the public living on our side before things go out of control,” it added.
The press release was appended by the Kilenkaba, president, and Taongnukshi, general secretary of the organisation.
