Kohima, May 26 (EMN): The Lotha colony council in Dimapur has banished the couple who had abandoned their newborn near a culvert, wrapped inside a cement bag, at the state stadium near ADC junction on May 24.

According to a press update issued by the council, it was informed that after taking the abandoned baby to Nikos Hospital and Research Centre, it was confirmed that the baby had been delivered in the hospital, and the infant’s parents were identified as two permanent residents of Liphayan village under Wokha district, who were presently residing at Lotha colony in Dimapur.

Accordingly, in an emergency meeting of the colony council, which was convened on May 25, “the parents were summoned and (they) confessed that due to sheer poverty, they decided to abandon their child with an intention to be taken by passersby”.

The statement further read: “The colony council condemn the duo in the strongest term as inhuman, barbaric and criminal.”

Further, the council resolved to banish the couple from the colony as per “customary procedure with immediate effect,” it stated.
