DIMAPUR — A consultative meeting was held at Niroyo Village Community Hall on September 28 under the initiative of the Nyiro Range Students’ Union (NRSU), during which it was stated that the Primary Health Centre (PHC) Nyiro, established in 1997, is in a pathetic condition with a shortage of staff and does not meet the norms and guidelines of a PHC.

The meeting was held to deliberate on the condition of government schools and health centres under Nyiro, according to an update.

It was attended by members of the Nyiro Range Public Organisations, Nyiro Range Council Chairman Union, Nyiro Range Eloe Ekhűng, Nyiro Range GB Union, village students’ union, head teachers, in-charges of various government institutions under Nyiro, staff of PHC Nyiro, and health and wellness centre staff of Longsachung and N Longidang.

Noting that the PHC Nyiro building is in a deplorable state, the release stated that despite numerous appeals for the appointment of a permanent medical officer, there has been no positive response.

“To our considerable dismay, the department has opted to assign a medical officer on a temporary basis who will only visit twice a month,” it said, calling it an absurd response to the legitimate demands of the Nyiro community. It further urged the concerned department to make an official visit at the earliest to assess the condition of PHC Nyiro.

The release mentioned that the union had previously issued a notice to the errant government employees; however, certain individuals remain unresponsive. It further stated that failure to resume work within seven days will compel the union to pursue further action, including reporting the matter to the relevant department.

The meeting was described as a necessity to bring all the civil society organisations (CSOs) and stakeholders together to discuss reformative changes in the education and healthcare sectors. Various speakers addressed the hindrances impeding the progress of schools and health centres, noting a shortage of teaching staff in some schools.

During the second session of the meeting, discussions focused on the rampant partying and illegal activities occurring along the Nyiro Range Road (Niroyo – N Longidang) and KVK Road (Satsuphen – Yanthamo).

It was stated that these behaviours not only present a negative image to passersby but also severely disrupt the peaceful environment of the surrounding villages.

Consequently, the organisations present at the meeting collectively passed a resolution aimed at curbing these activities. Offenders will be subject to penalties and held accountable in accordance with the established resolution.

The union, along with its six federating units, called upon all elders, intellectuals, leaders, and netizens of the Nyiro Range to unite in their collective efforts to revamp the range.
