DIMAPUR — Phek Police and Sakhi: One Stop Centre hosted life skill training in food processing, paper bag-making and a seminar on employment and career avenues at the Phek Police Church Training Hall on August 6.

Speaking on the occasion, Phek superintendent of police (SP), Dr. Pritpal Kaur, highlighted various career opportunities and entrepreneurship pathways and urged the parents to guide their children away from harmful habits such as alcohol and drug use. She also discussed different entrance exams and their methodologies and later taught entrepreneurship skills to the participants.

Dr. Kaur also encouraged women Self-Help Groups (SHG) to become self-sufficient, stated an update from Phek Police.

It stated that paper bag-making initiative was aimed at making Phek district plastic-free while generating employment.

Kulo Kezo, DEO of Phek, encouraged parents to guide students towards admissions in ITI, polytechnic or colleges based on their interests. He also outlined various government schemes available.

Zhozoto from Nakro Young Professional, Ministry of Labour and Employment, urged students to visit the office for career guidance and discussed various employment opportunities.

The training included practical skills in oyster mushroom cultivation, pickle making (chili, mango etc.) and paper bag-making conducted by trainers from the Sakhi: One Stop Centre under the leadership of Jitsiasa. She encouraged all the SHG for innovations in their products and to make teams for work.

Jitsiasa further spoke on women’s rights and role of Sakhi: One Stop Centre for women’s welfare and rights.

The event saw participation of women from 16 churches, members of the Phek Police Family Welfare, students and SHG members from Phek.

The programme was chaired by Kuvesuhlu Khesoh, president of the Phek Town Church Women’s Union (PTCWU).
