ULB elections: 31 file nominations for KMC, 20 for WTC

KOHIMA — After receiving party tickets, candidates from various wards submitted their nomination papers at the Kohima Municipal Council (KMC) office in Kohima on Monday for the forthcoming urban local body (ULB) elections.

KMC administrator and returning officer, T Lanusenla Longkumer, informed Eastern Mirror that 31 candidates submitted their nominations at the office on June 10.

Of the 31 candidates, 16 represent the Nationalist Democratic Progressive Party (NDPP), nine belong to the National People’s Party (NPP), five are running independently, and one is affiliated with the Congress party. Of the nominees, 12 were female candidates.

It may be mentioned that six out of the 19 KMC wards have been reserved for women.

An official from the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in Kohima clarified that the party has not put forth any candidates for the KMC elections as they are allied with the NDPP. Accordingly, in wards where the NDPP is contesting, the BJP will abstain from fielding its own candidate.

Wokha: A total of 20 candidates from various political parties submitted their nominations for the ULB elections for the Wokha Town Council on Monday. These nominations were submitted to the Returning Officer, ADC, Wokha, K Furesie Nyuwi.

These candidates include Y Renthunglo Kikon (NDPP), K Lidemo Murry (NDPP), N Elon Tungoe (NPP), Grace Murry (NDPP), Y Elabemo Kinghen (NDPP), N Grace Murry (NDPP), Nyanbeni Ezung (BJP), Nzanbeni Humtsoe (NDPP), Khozamo Lotha (NDPP), Mhomo Humtsoe (IND), E Zuthungpemo Ezung (NDPP), Thungchano Kikon (NDPP), K Chumchano Kikon (BJP), Limathung (NDPP), Thungchanbemo Lotha (INC), T Chonthungo Lotha (BJP), Nzano P Kikon (BJP), Rhukumo Kikon (BJP), T Nzanthung Ngullie (BJP), and Hapenthung P Ezung (NDPP).
