Theologian declares candidature for ULBs poll

MOKOKCHUNG — Wapangnaro Pongen, a 52-year-old from a theological and secular background, has declared her candidature to contest in the upcoming ULB election from Ward 7 Kumlong (reserved seat) in Mokokchung town.

Declaring her candidature on Thursday in the presence of supporters and well-wishers, she stated that the zeal to serve the people at the lower strata has propelled her to contest in the upcoming ULB elections. She is the fourth among the women candidates to contest in the upcoming ULB election from Mokokchung town.

As the municipal council would function basing on the Nagaland Municipal Act 2023, she felt that it would be a great challenge for the elected councilors to implement in a smooth manner.

On issues that are contradictory to custom and tradition, she stated that they would try to work out things in consultation with the stakeholders. She also assured the electorates to be mediator between the people and the government.
