KLC students to get hands-on learning of police operations

DIMAPUR — Kohima Law College (KLC), Kohima, organised an introductory programme at the college conference hall on Thursday for the outgoing Bachelor of Laws (LL.B.) students of the college who will be attached to different police stations.

According to a press release from the Nagaland Police, 62 final-year LL.B. students will be attached to various police stations, including Traffic Police Stations and the SP’s office in Kohima, for a period of seven days starting from May 9 to the 15th. This initiative aims to enhance their understanding of police department operations, especially at the field level, including the functioning of police stations, traffic management, etc.

The programme was chaired by Kezhokhoto Savi, assistant professor at Kohima Law College.

Sandeep M Tamgadge, Additional Director General of Police (Law and Order), spoke on the occasion, elaborating on the basic components of law and the police force, the various types of laws, and the initiation of criminal laws. He discussed the functions of different ranks and files of police officers, emphasising the operational systems of both police headquarters and police stations.

In his speech, Bharat Laxman Markad, Superintendent of Police, Kohima, highlighted the attachment schedule for the students, who will be divided into five groups.

A total of five nodal officers will be assigned for each group. He challenged the students to learn and understand the relationship between police and lawyers during this attachment period to enhance and instigate changes in the future, as well as to positively influence the attitude of the general public towards the law.

Limaakum Jamir, Principal of Kohima Law College, acknowledged the coordination and cooperation of the Police Department and stated that more programmes will be implemented in the future to familiarise students with the working relationship between the Law department and the police force.
