176 cases, 182 persons arrested from RPF Dimapur Post in just 4 months, says Officer

DIMAPUR — As many as 176 cases were registered under the Railways Act and 182 persons arrested from the Railway Protection Force (RPF) Dimapur Post jurisdiction within the last four months, from January to April this year.

This was updated by Assistant Security Commissioner of Railway Protection Force (RPF) Dimapur Post, Bimal Chandra Das, at a press conference in Dimapur on Saturday.

The jurisdiction of the RPF Dimapur Post is from Diphu railway station in Assam to Shokhuvi railway station in Chümoukedima, Nagaland.

Maintaining that RPF has been actively working to ensure the safety and security of passengers, while preventing the use of the railways station as a channel for transporting contraband items and human trafficking, Das said 20 minor children, comprising seven girls and 13 boys, were rescued under the operation “Nanhe Fariste” and subsequently transferred to Childline Dimapur for necessary follow-up procedures during the four-month period.

Under the operation “Narcos,” the RPF confiscated suspected brown sugar and ganja valued at INR 51.05 lakh and handed over to Government Railway Police Station (GRPS) Dimapur. It also retrieved passengers’ belongings and apprehended two offenders, transferring them to GRPS/Dimapur, as part of mission “Yatri Suraksha”.

Furthermore, the official informed that the RPF personnel recovered sedative drugs and apprehended a criminal whose motive was to drug passenger with the intent of stealing personal belongings. The arrested individual was subsequently handed over to GRPS, Dimapur.

During operation “Amanat,” RPF recovered and return four items left behind by passengers, while a significant number of railway counter tickets and E-tickets under operation “Uplabdh”, resulting in registration of 12 cases and arrest of 12 offenders in connection with these cases. The arrested persons were forwarded Special Railway Magistrate/Court/ Dimapur, it was informed.

Under operation “Sewa”, the ASC updated that two women were rescued and provided with medical assistance, while one woman was also rescued and handed over to Sakhi Shelter Home. Furthermore, under the Smuggled Goods of Foreign Origin (SGFO), the RPF personnel confiscated foreign goods valued at INR 1, 99,800 (aprox. INR 2 lakh), resulting in the arrest of “two outsiders” involved in the case.

In the meantime, the RPF officer requested the Naga youth to apply for jobs in the Railway Protection Force (RPF) and Railway Protection Special Force (RPSF), saying that there are approximately 4,026 vacancies for constables and over 200 vacancies for sub-inspectors currently.

He lamented significant lack of representation from north-eastern states, particularly Nagaland, in RPF.

There has been no representation from Nagaland in the RPF, and minimal representation from other north-eastern states too.

Sating that many youth from Nagaland might have limited knowledge about the RPF, he appealed to job aspirants from the state to apply for various positions in the force. The last date for submission of application forms is May 14, he added.
