DIMAPUR — The Nagaland Baptist Church Council (NBCC) has issued a press release calling for a 152-hour ‘Chain of Prayer’ starting from April 12, to foster unity among Christians through collective intercession for the upcoming general election to the Lok Sabha.

Emphasising the biblical concept of standing in the gap through prayer, the NBCC encouraged the citizens to see themselves as the ones called to intercede on behalf of their nation, including Nagaland, during this critical period.

It went on to state that the 152 hours symbolises the years of Christianity in Nagaland, and called for maintaining continuity in prayer and concerted efforts to intercede for the country and the state.

In light of the socio-political and religious challenges faced by the region, the NBCC stressed the importance of seeking divine intervention for the upcoming election. It also sought prayers for the selection of righteous leaders who can govern with integrity and contribute to the progress and well-being of the nation.

“The leaders we are going to put in the leadership position for the country will make policies and chart the way the nation will move forward for the next five years to come. They will affect the country, the region, the state, the community, the family, the faith base organisation and the church,” it said.

Further, the NBCC stated that the call for prayer is not to pray for any particular political party to be elected, nor to target individual person.

“Our prayer is for God to intervene in bringing the right leaders who will progressively lead the nation. To allow freedom of religion and social interaction of equality to prevail, where everyone will feel safe and comfortable,” it said, while urging everyone to participate in prayer.
