35+ Mokokchung Football League 5.0 begins

MOKOKCHUNG — Limanungsang, president of All Ward Union Mokokchung Town (AWUMT), kicked off the 35+ Mokokchung Football League 5.0 on Saturday at Imkongmeren Sports Complex in Mokokchung as the special guest.

This edition will run throughout the year and consist of 100 matches, according to Tiakumzuk, the organiser of the league. He added that six teams will compete for the coveted title and expressed his belief that this season will feature thrilling football, given that all the teams boast a strong lineup of players.

The special guest, in his address, commended the league and lauded the organiser for extending the league into a yearlong session. He stated that, among many popular sports, football is one of the most beloved and widely watched. Therefore, he urged the players to exhibit true sportsmanship throughout the season.

He also expressed hope that through this league, the generation might be freed from the clutches of technology, which is leading them towards a sedentary lifestyle devoid of physical activity.

He also expressed optimism that the 35+ football league will continue to promote the importance of physical activity and fitness through sports.

In the opening match, the defending champion, Revenant FC, defeated New Ecclesia FC by a score of 2-0. Revenant FC took the lead with a goal from R. Achi, making it 1-0. Unfortunately for New Ecclesia, they conceded an own goal, resulting in the final score of 2-0.
