DIMAPUR — A 12-hour total shutdown has been declared in the entire eastern Nagaland area on Thursday in view of the public meeting scheduled to be held in Tuensang.

The shutdown will be imposed from 6 am to 6 pm, according to the eastern Nagaland public emergency control room.

However, district administration, police and paramilitary forces, Power department, Fire and Emergency Services, medical emergencies, media, delegates attending the meeting and the PHED have been exempted from the purview of the shutdown.

The Eastern Nagaland Peoples’ Organisation (ENPO) had convened the eastern Nagaland public emergency meeting with the Eastern Nagaland Legislators’ Union (ENLU), based on the decision taken during a public meeting on March 19 in Tuensang.

The ENLU consists of elected representatives from 20 assembly constituencies (A/Cs) in the six eastern districts. Mon district has nine ACs, Tuensang has four, Longleng, Noklak and Kiphire have two each and Shamator has one.

The decision to whether the eastern Nagaland will participate in the upcoming 18th Lok Sabha election will depend on the outcome of Thursday’s meeting.
