IN a startling statement, three apex Ao organizations, the Ao Senden, Watsu Mungdang and Ao Kaketshir Mungdang have alleged that the prime accused in the July 4 murder at Residency colony, Rikhumkaba was subjected to sexual assault by inmates inside the prison cell. “It is learnt from reliable sources that Rikhumkaba was molested and sodomised by his cell mates, which is indeed shameful and despicable and the offender must not go unpunished. In view of these, we demand that the accused be given protection or kept in isolation,” read a joint statement received here today.
The three Ao organizations also expressed skepticism over the prolonged delay of forensic reports and pointed out that “our state shows a very poor record as far as conviction of offenders/criminals is concerned.”
“Since the forensic result is still awaited, about which we remain skeptical due to its prolonged delay, we are hopeful that Rikhumkaba might provide some clues to this crime. “It is discernable that it was a premeditated crime committed by persons with sadistic minds who have no place in society and deserves the severest of punishment,” the statement said.
As such, they said, law enforcers should thoroughly probe into the retraction of confessional statement by the prime accused. “His claim that his confession was extracted under duress is a very serious allegation and viewed seriously by all.”
“The aforementioned civil societies are optimistic that the authorities dealing with this case will work diligently so that justice may finally be delivered, however, if any anomaly is detected in the course of investigation, we are prepared to take our own course of action,” concluded the statement, which was appended by President of Ao Senden Dr Sangyu Yaden, President Watsü Mungdang Achila Imsong and President of AKM Akok Lkr.
