DIMAPUR — The 57th Naga Students’ Union Delhi (NSUD) annual sports week is currently underway at Police Ground, Kingsway Camp, Delhi, with the theme ‘Beyond boundaries: embracing diversity through sports’.
According to a press release, it began on March 13 with PN Khrimey, joint commissioner of police for the Special Police Unit for Women and Children (SPUWAC) and the Special Police Unit for North-Eastern Region (SPUNER), as the chief guest, and Wennyie Konyak, resident commissioner of Nagaland House Delhi, as the guest of honour at the opening ceremony.
Wennyie, while addressing the gathering, lauded the officials for taking up the initiative to organise the sports week and called upon the players, stating that it is not only about winning but being united as Nagas and getting to know other tribes better.
He further encouraged the gathering to actively participate, emphasising that it was okay even if they lost because the most important aspect was the opportunity to make new friends.
Yaorei Horam, president of NSUD, stated during his welcome address that in today’s world, where divisiveness seems to be on the rise, sports serve as a powerful catalyst for unity and understanding. He added that as they embark on the journey of athletic competition, it’s crucial to remember the values that sports instill in them—teamwork, perseverance, and respect.
The opening ceremony was hosted by Kivikali Yeptho, general secretary of the SKKD. The invocation was pronounced by Kegalo Semy, pastor of RCF Delhi. Special songs were presented by Gifty Shohe from PRS NSUD and Victoria Veisanai from RK.
The oath was administered by Rikho Chakhre, sports secretary of NSUD, and the benediction was led by Thenuhu Lohe, pastor of Chakhesang Church in Delhi.
