Supongmeren is INC candidate for Nagaland’s lone Lok Sabha seat

SIMAPUR — The Indian National Congress has declared S Supongmeren Jamir as its candidate for the upcoming Lok Sabha 2024 elections.

Jamir’s candidature for the lone parliamentary seat of Nagaland was announced on Friday along with 38 other Lok Sabha seats, by KC Venugopal, General Secretary (organisation) of the All India Congress Committee, in New Delhi.

The incumbent president of the Nagaland Pradesh Congress Committee, Jamir had previously contested the Nagaland Assembly polls in 2003 with a Congress ticket from Mongoya Assembly Constituency and won. However, his subsequent attempts in 2008, 2018 and 2023 were unsuccessful.

The Nationalist Democratic Progressive Party has already declared Dr. Chumben Murry as the consensus candidate of the People’s Democratic Alliance.
